Claude AI versus Chatter G.

I've been a user ChattyG from the jump. My business coach Chris Do and my coaching cohort were all discussing its relevance when it launched back in 2022. Our focus was on how to engage with AI tools in a way that enhanced creativity rather than get enveloped in the fear that they would replaced it. But platform fatigue is real with the mad rush of tools being released into the space I wasn’t all hook-line-and-sinker for other platforms. Finding the right tools can being amazing, but too many tools can be an impediment to real work getting done. Therefore, when I first heard of Claude, I just ignored what I thought was noise and kept on moving.

Then, more recently, I've been paring down redundant platform subscriptions and designing systems that don’t align with my business. (AI and otherwise). Breaking up with ChatGPT and chasing after Claude felt less like a necessity and more like a “grass is always greener” response. And to be honest ChatGPT was already delivering me more value than I expected — helping me create outreach lists and flush out business ideas and edit emails in a useful way. But after watering my own lawn a bit I dug into Claude’s coding capabilities, I made the switch.

The argument for either platform really echoes of the old Mac versus PC debate, or any binary situation where your personal preference tends to align with what you ultimately choose. Just like a PC, ChatGPT is a super useful tool! I just personally think a Mac is sexier. And if you can pardon the anthropomorphism of AI platforms, I think Claude is a bit sexier too. But not for the reasons you might think. Not for the smart ad campaigns, the warm interface or Dario Amodei’s current ethical stance on AI’s use in autonomous weapons or mass domestic surveillance. Which to be clear, I do appreciate.

But, what actually tipped the scales back when I switched over, was Chatty started agreeing with me way too much. And that constant agreement eroded my trust in the tool. I have a lot of ideas and while I appreciate the enthusiasm, believe me, not all my ideas are good ones.

I don’t struggle with are ideas (good ones and bad ones). I struggle with too many ideas and not enough directed, clear, available time. Right away I noticed that Claude brings a more nuanced approach to my queries and the feedback it responds with. The layout is cleaner and the built in guardrails around how it sources things feels intentional. Most importantly, rather than letting my ideation phase run wild it redirects my attention back to action items and manageable tasks. Often telling me, “that’s a great idea, but you have a lot going on. What do you think about handling your current workload before going down a divergent path.”

As a business owner Claude moved beyond personal preference, It’s resolved real tension I didn’t previously have language for. It’s helped me clarify which of my ideas are worth exploring further and then helped me bring those ideas to life. It’s also cautioned me to pause and put aside ideas that distract me from my goals. It’s like a super honest assistant who can multitask and isn’t afraid of hurting my feelings.

Using a hammer won’t get a screw out, so too, the right tools increase efficiency. And while I’m still on a quest to decrease my monthly business platform spend, I am also more open to intermittently exploring new tools to grow my business and making changes as they feel necessary and appropriate.
